2023 was a big year for a number of our team members.
For one, our Chair, Martine Roy, was awarded the Order of Canada for her tireless efforts as an executive leader, activist and advocate of diversity, inclusion and equity in Canada’s 2SLGBTQI+ communities. Congratulations Martine! We are so proud of you.
In 2023, our Executive Director, Michelle Douglas, was named the Canadian Armed Forces’ first Honorary Colonel for Chief, Professional Conduct and Culture. This position will allow Michelle to continue her life-long project of changing military culture and improving the federal workplace, especially for 2SLGBTQI+ people. We wish Michelle every success!
Board of directors member Douglas Elliott was the inaugural recipient of the Carl Mitchell Community Impact Award which recognizes the University of Toronto alumni who advance the principles of equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) through their extraordinary volunteer contributions to the community at large. This prestigious award honoured Doug’s decades of tireless advocacy and volunteer efforts to support the 2SLGBTQI+ community.
Our board members gave speeches, traveled to attend Canada Pride Citation Ceremonies and continued to advance our projects. Everyone continues to do all they can to tell the stories of the LGBT Purge, improve awareness of the Purge and support reconciliation measures with the federal government.
Sincere thanks to all our team members for the work they do — for the Fund and beyond — to improve the lives of 2SLGBTQI+ people in Canada.
